![]() In actuality, it's a vibrant action-adventure-RPG in the style of Legend of Zelda and Diablo. Or, that's what I thought as I let the game sit on my virtual shelf for months after receiving it as part of Games with Gold. If cliffhanger endings to games or movies could fuck off forever, the world would surely be a better place.ģ5h 25m PlayedDarksiders 2 is a dark action game where you play as Death, Horseman of the Apocalypse, in his gruesome quest to free his brother, War. Not only because it's and interesting series and it would be awesome to see it evolve even further in the next installment but also because of an ending to Darksiders 2. It's a real bitch that Darksiders bit the dust after this one. And, of course, between hacking, slashing, and looting you'll also get your fair share of environmental puzzles and acrobatics, which prove to be an entertaining and sometimes even challenging diversion from the murder. To put it simply - if you've ever wondered what it would be like to play a game like Diablo, but from a third person perspective, Darksiders 2 is probably the closest you can get to that type of game. ![]() Even though it combines several different genres, much like its predecessor, this time around the devs managed to create something way more unique than just a "Zelda meets God of War" mashup. This feels like a point when the series really kicked off and started to take its own unique shape. Great art style, sound design, and music, varied and addicting gameplay, and above else - fascinating lore and storyline. It's like "Ok, here's the end of the game, here's your achievements, thanks for playing!" It's fine if something like that comes at the end of Mario or Little Big Planet, but when it comes at the end of a narrative with as much at stake as this, it just feels shallow.ģ2h 1m PlayedAside from a few annoying glitches, this game is awesome. You just keep going through this adventure, these compelling questions are raised and suddenly it's just over, with little feeling of real thought being put into it or like it even wants players to consider what has transpired. I'm just a sucker for media revolving around the concept of the Four Horsemen, and this at least does sell that story rather well, if paced terribly and not ever quite feeling like it knows what it's doing with itself. They're by no means bad, I'm still ranking this game above average, but I don't walk away from it feeling like I just experienced something unique or great. Almost everything in it- the combat, the dungeons, etc, are all inspired by greater games like Zelda or God of War, while never quite feeling as refined or as great as their origin. However, it's still a really good game, and if you liked the first one this one most likely won't disappoint.ġ4h 56m PlayedThis series is really quite average, looked at from a critical point of view. ![]() The only thing I can really say that's negative is its length - it's a bit long and overstays its welcome a bit, and the story probably could've been done in less time. Overall, this game's a good follow-up to the original. In the end, a hack 'n' slash is a hack 'n' slash. ![]() That being said, it's an interesting addition that I didn't really anticipate, but I can't say it adds a lot to the experience. This isn't as developed as it could've been, and is just more RPG-lite than RPG. Gameplay-wise, this game isn't too much more developed than the first Darksiders, though there's a loot-based element that's been added on with armor and weapons to choose from. Though the story tends to drag on in its final moments, it's still a really interesting story to see through to the end due to Death's motivations and what's at stake. You travel through Heaven and Hell, worldbuilding past the original game's fantastical areas. Death sets out to revive humanity after the Apocalypse happened prematurely in the first game, taking you across mythical lands with dwarves, golems, and other fantastical creatures. Story-wise, this is chronologically side-by-side with the first game. This game did not disappoint, even though it did tend to overstay its welcome. 19h 43m PlayedAfter the first Darksiders, I was really excited for this one, especially with the promise of playing as Death.
